federal budget deficit? yes please

Of course the federal government has to take the country back into deficit. Why is that such a bad thing? Don’t try to tell me that the shiny budget surplus that the Howard government delivered during its tenure resulted in growing services and leading-edge infrastructure for the nation. Equally, a deficit will not necessarily mean shrinking services or aging infrastructure.

It’s about time Mr. Turnbull stopped carping on about this as if a national economy is the same as that of a household. It isn’t. A household needs to balance its budget and not spend more than it earns; but clearly a nation is not the same.

Go ahead and keep injecting funds into our economy Mr. Swan. The country needs the stimulation of new projects, expanded infrastructure and better services. And the knock-on effects will help boost employment and confidence.
