this one got a little out of hand

A ‘small, simple project’ has taken on a life of its own. I have just finished this display cabinet for Christopher’s dust-gathering objects, er, model aircraft, of which there are more to come eventually.

The cabinet had to safely house the models so that they were clearly visible from the wheelchair, and also from his bed at night. The 3 small under-shelf down lights in the lid make a big contribution to the effect.

It may have been a mistake giving him that 144th scale Airbus A380 for his birthday! He has now formulated a medium-to-long-term plan to build a collection of civil aircraft of the same scale to populate the shelves. (Extended family: take note for future bithdays and Christmases.)

I must say that the model building has given us hours of rainy-day dad-son time together, but all those fiddlylittle bits and tiny printed instructions! At my age! I need to revisit the optometrist.

Anyway, he’s happy with it.
