Spot the Mistakes

Finished this 7 metre screen this afternoon. Hardwood fence posts with pine rails, concrete footings, finished with brushwood. One or two little mistakes along the way, one you can see if you look carefully, the other is not visible in this shot. Wouldn’t be a Hills special without at least one mistake.

Ok, I’ll tell you.

Mistake 1: cosmetic – I trimmed the brushwood a bit too much on one panel. You aren’t supposed to see the post sticking up above the screen. I have some off-cuts. Might be able to patch it up.

Mistake 2: structural – a bit more serious. The depth limiter on my circular saw gave way as I was slicing into one of the posts to prepare it for a rail. Cut perhaps 60mm deep instead of 38mm! The post was ok but badly weakened. Had to bolt a couple of steel brackets onto the post to ‘bind up the wound’. No problems now. That is probably the strongest post now.

  1. Good one Garry!!! Love the look of the design – also the beautiful crimson amaryllis my dad loved so much! Cheers, anny
